Miller Park
Editorial Review for Miller Park – by Peter Behle
The Venue
Milwaukee makes a fine addition to the renaissance of small, intimate stadiums with this indoor-outdoor gem. A one-of-a-kind, fan-shaped retractable roof keeps the rain away while allowing the natural-grass surface to thrive. The stands are as close to the playing field as Major League Baseball guidelines allow, and fully two-thirds of the 43,000 seats are on lower levels. The park also features modern amenities like wide concourses and a children's play area.
The Experience
Although some fans have regrets about Miller Park's retractable roof, the overall consensus is that the stadium architects did what had to be done to make early spring and late-summer baseball bearable in this northern clime. While the roof does give the stadium a domed feeling (definitely a negative for baseball purists), the intimacy of the stands still provides a traditional baseball atmosphere.
